What is a Hospitalist?
The medical specialty of Hospital Medicine focuses on the general medical care of patients who are hospitalized . Doctors whose primary professional focus is hospital medicine are called "hospitalists".
Hospitalists manage a patient's medical care throughout their stay in a hospital setting. This includes seeing patients in the Emergency Department, admitting patients, following them during their stay in the hospital, and organizing medical care the patient will receive after being discharged from the hospital.
Most practicing hospitalists (over 80%) are trained in general internal medicine. Others are trained in an internal medicine subspecialty, family practice, or pediatrics. Additional hospitalists are mid-level providers usually nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
The Pinehurst Medical Clinic Hospitalist Program
The Pinehurst Medical Clinic Hospitalists provide care to patients of the Pinehurst Medical Clinic who are hospitalized at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. They are responsible for admitting patients and following their care throughout the duration of a patient's stay in the hospital.
Our hospitalist physicians work closely with all of the other Pinehurst Medical Clinic primary care and specialty physicians to ensure our patients receive the highest quality care possible while in the hospital.

- Providing the highest level of medical care possible to our patients who are hospitalized at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital,
- Having a Pinehurst Medical Clinic physician located in Moore Regional Hospital at all time overseeing the care of our hospitalized patients,
- Providing a highly coordinated approach to the medical care our patients receive while in the hospital, and
- Attracting and retaining high quality hospitalist physicians.
