What is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis
is a common bone disease with affects over 28 million Americans,
80% of whom are women. This silent disease causes thinning of
the bones, thereby posing a higher risk of fracture.
Osteoporosis progresses without symptoms or pain until a
fracture occurs, typically in the spine, wrist or hip. By age
65, 1/3 of all women will have a fracture of the spine. This
disease causes more than 1.5 million fractures each year, which
can lead to permanent disability, loss of independence or death.
These are alarming statistics, but…osteoporosis is a preventable
and treatable disease.
