Osteoporosis Center

Bone density test

Why the Osteoporosis Center?

The Osteoporosis Center provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of Osteoporosis and other bone  mineral density problems. To do this, we have assembled a team of expert  healthcare providers, including physicians, technologists, physical therapists, registered dieticians, and nurses. Our team works

with you and your primary care provider to evaluate your condition and determine the best plan of care.

What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a common bone disease with affects over 28 million Americans, 80% of whom are women. This silent disease causes thinning of the bones, thereby posing a higher risk of fracture.  Osteoporosis progresses without symptoms or pain until a fracture occurs, typically in the spine, wrist or hip. By age 65, 1/3 of all women will have a fracture of the spine. This disease causes more than 1.5 million fractures each year, which can lead to permanent disability, loss of independence or death. These are alarming statistics, but…osteoporosis is a preventable and treatable disease.

 How Do I Get Started?

Are you at risk for Osteoporosis?  Review these risk factors.

Female
Asian or Caucasian
Postmenopausal/Early Menopause
Small, thin frame
History of bone fracture
Family history of osteoporosis
Low calcium intake
Lack of exercise
History of eating disorders
Use of prescribed oral steroids or anticonvulsants
Use of alcohol or tobacco

The more risk factors that apply to you, the greater your risk of Osteoporosis.

We’re here to help you decide which services best meet your needs.  You can call to schedule a Bone Density Test, or visit with the director of the Osteoporosis Center,  Brooks Mays, MD.

Your doctor can refer you or you can make your own appointment.
