Combine Hospitalist Programs
We are pleased to announce that the Pinehurst Medical Clinic hospitalist program has combined with the Moore Regional Hospital hospitalist program. The hospitalists working for this single, consolidated hospitalist program will assume responsibility for providing all Internal Medicine services to PMC patients admitted to Moore Regional Hospital. Moore Regional Hospital will operate this new combined program.

Why is this change being made?
One of the fastest growing fields in medicine today is “Hospital Medicine.” Hospitalists are medical doctors who specialize in the care of patients who are in the hospital. That is their only job, and they don’t have office practices.
Over the past three years, the Pinehurst Medical Clinic and Moore Regional Hospital have both invested in the development of their own hospitalist program. By creating a single, consolidated program, PMC and MRH bring their combined expertise and resources together to ensure patients of the Pinehurst Medical Clinic continue to receive the highest quality of care possible.
Who will take care of me if I’m admitted to Moore Regional Hospital?
Your Internal Medicine hospital care will be provided by one or more of the hospitalists from the combined MRH Hospitalist program. Your Pinehurst Medical Clinic Internal Medicine physician will no longer provide direct care for patients who are admitted to Moore Regional Hospital.
Why are hospitalists taking care of me instead of my regular PMC Primary Care Provider?
Hospitalists are in the hospital all the time, so they can immediately respond to any unexpected changes in your condition and take care of whatever medical needs you have day or night. By contract, most primary care doctors, including your PMC primary care provider, need to spend most of their time seeing patients in their office. That leaves them with a limited amount of time to care for patients in the hospital, even if their office is just across the street.
With hospitalists managing your care, you have the benefits of:
- Receiving high-quality care all day, every day
- Seeing a doctor as often as needed
- Having a doctor more readily available to talk with you and your family
The Moore Regional Hospital hospitalists know every specialist and every diagnostic and treatment service in the hospital. They also know the nurses who help take care of you, because they work with them every day. All of this fosters communication and teamwork, which results in the best and most efficient care for you.
How do the hospitalists know what I need?
Your Moore Regional Hospital hospitalists communicate regularly with your Pinehurst Medical Clinic physician(s) and with any other specialist who may be involved with your care. This is similar to the way your regular provider communicates with specialists when you need additional tests or treatment.
In addition, the MRH hospitalists have access to the Pinehurst Medical Clinic Electronic Medical Record. This allows them to obtain information on all of the care you have received through the Pinehurst Medical Clinic.
Because the MRH hospitalists work as a team, they routinely communicate with each other about the patient in their care to make sure everything is begin done that should be done.
Who will be my doctor after I leave the hospital?
When you are discharged from the hospital, the hospitalists will send a detailed report to your Pinehurst Medical Clinic primary care provider describing the treatment you received and any further treatment needs. The hospitalist will provide you with any necessary prescriptions and will arrange for you to go back to see your PMC primary care provider.
