Dermaplaning is a noninvasive treatment that immediately rejuvenates the skin by removing the top layer of skin along with vellus hair (peach fuzz). It is highly effective in minimizing the appearance of fine lines and acne scars while leaving skin smooth, supple, and vibrant. Dermaplaning increases the penetration of active ingredients in the treatment room and your home skincare products. It creates the perfect canvas for makeup application and is the go-to treatment to prepare for special occasions.

This treatment is typically not painful and is completed between half an hour and an hour, depending on the service package you choose. After dermaplaning is complete, there is usually no downtime, but your skin may be red and slightly tender immediately following the procedure. Because of this, it is essential to use sun protection.

It is recommended to receive dermaplaning every four to six weeks. Typically, clients over the age of 30 are the best candidates. Men can also be dermaplaned in nonbeared areas.

One of the most common concerns for dermaplaning is having the hair grow back thicker and darker. This is physiologically impossible. The soft, fine vellus hair will grow back slowly - usually in about 4 weeks. Two types of hair grow on our bodies: 1. Vellus hair is the thin, fine, soft hair that typically covers the entire body. 2. Terminal hair is the course hair that grows on the head, and face in men, underarms, legs, and pubic areas. Dermaplaning, waxing, tweezing, or any other depilatory form of hair removal, cannot alter the type of hair grown in any given area.

Dermaplaning is a great addition to a service you may already be receiving in our office. This includes microneedling and laser treatments.

Dermaplaning is currently only offered at Pinehurst Medical Clinic Dermatology - Southern Pines.
